Squirrel still comes back to visit the family that saved her years ago

Bella was only four weeks old when Brantley Harrison found her in the woods. The tiny creature was baldy injured, most likely as a result of an owl’s attack. So Brantley, who actually helps animals to rehabilitate, took the little squirrel home.  Little did they know the little animal was about to change their lives.

It was already October when Bella made her way to the Harrison’s house, and since the winter was just around the corner and the rescued animal was too young and injured to be released back in the wild, she was about to live there until spring. However, she wasn’t the only squirrel there as the Harrisons were raising other three: Larry, Moe and Curly.

“Her personality was not any different than any other squirrel I have ever raised while she was in my care,” Brantley told The Dodo. “The main objective is to return them all back into the wild so I never treated her like a pet. She acted no different than the others.”

After they took care of them and fed them well, when spring arrived, the four squirrels were ready to step back where they belong. While or other three rescued squirrels returned in the wild, apparently Bella wasn’t prepared to gave up her life with the humans who nursed her.

“She started to come back for a treat or two within days of being released. The others came back too for a few days which is very typical and then after a week or so they usually stop coming by and getting close to you,” Brantley said. Bella sits right at the front door waiting for someone to notice she has come by for a visit. She has even resorted to jumping over to the dining room window to peer in for someone to see her.”

Now, there are already 9 years since Bella was released back in the wild, but she’s still visiting her human friends, almost every single day. The Harrisons get used to it and they say Bella is part of the family. “My husband will be running late for something and rushes out the door to be greeted by her and he HAPPILY runs back inside to the big bowl of walnuts we leave by the front door to grab a handful and goes back out to spend some time with her,” Brantley admits.

Apparently, Bella isn’t the only rescued squirrel that refused to gave up on her adopting parents. Everyone, meet Gibby!
