Shelter dog goes into labor – kind woman offers emergency ride out

Jennifer Taylor – a rescue volunteer and an animal lover is visiting a local shelter in Edinburg, Texas, almost everyday. She tries to comfort the dogs there as much as she can. For many of them she even found some forever homes. For others she tries to find the best foster homes to move in

Recently, Jennifer was particularly concerned about Debbie – a pregnant Husky at the shelter. Finally after a few phone calls, Texas Sled Dog Rescue agreed to take the soon to be mom dog in. However, no one at the shelter didn’t knew exactly when Debbie should get birth. So when Jennifer went there to take her to the Sled Rescue, she couldn’t believed when she heard one of the shelter workers saying “She’s having her babies now!”

The first thought that crossed Jennifer’s mind was to find a better place for Debbie to deliver her babies on this world as a shelter isn’t by far the best place to do that. So she took the future mom in her car.

“We knew she [Debbie] was pregnant, but didn’t think she was quite ready to go,” Taylor told The Dodo. “My first thought was, ‘Oh no, not now! A shelter is no place to have puppies. This is not good timing, mamma, you’re supposed to hold them in until you get to your foster home.”

It didn’t took too long until two little ones came into this world, just right there on the back of Jeniffer’s car. More precisely her husband’s car! Even so, Jennifer looked at the funny part of the situation. So she took a picture of Debbie and her first two babies and shared it on Facebook, adding:

“I have a husky giving birth in the back of my car. Please don’t tell my husband!”

Shortly after, Jennifer decided to take Debbie and her newborn pups at her home, so while she was ridding back home she tried to keep and eye and monitoring what’s happening back in her car. By the time she got home, the Husky mama gave birth to eight perfectly health puppies – 6 girls and 2 boys.

“I drove as fast as I could, juggling driving and trying to monitor her,” the woman said. “Debbie is such a good mother dog to her babies.” After spending a few days at Jennifer’s home, Debbie and her babies finally arrived to their foster home. As about the woman’s husband, he never find out what happened on the back of his car!
