It says you don’t choose a cat, but the cat choosing you. But apparently that works for dogs too, and these words have never been more true than in this particular situation
Bill Shaver was driving back home in Missouri from a trip in Arkansas, when he stopped at a gas station for a short break. However he would never guessed what a lovely surprise he’d have when getting back in the car. Thankfully, he left the car door open, so a stray dog that was wondering around the place has spotted it and without hesitating she just sneaked in.
A few moments later, when Bill returned to the car he couldn’t believe his eyes when spotted the uninvited passenger curling on his car seat. The poor little thing was only skin and bones, so it din’t took too long for Bill to realize the creature next to him was in need of help. Watching the stray pup just how comfortable and safe he feels in the car, the kind-hearted man knew he won’t left her back there for nothing in the world.
However, before taking her home, Bill sent a text to his wife Angela, to ask her if she agrees to adopt a dog. But it couldn’t be another answer than ‘yes’ given his wife has always been a true animal lover and she rescued countless animals over the years.
By the time they got back home, the pup already befriend Bill, just like they were always meant to be together. But even so, the dog was a little bit reluctant to leave the safety of the car. In the end Bill convinced her and took her inside the house where the rest of the family, including other four dogs and a cat. And they all gave him a very warm welcome.
“We decided to call her River because of where she found him,” Angela told The Dodo. “Once they all decided she was OK, he [Bill] brought her in for a bath. She was covered in mud. [Then] Bill made her a bed on the floor in our room next to the space heater. She slept there all night.”
After the lucky dog started to feel more comfortable, Bill gave a well deserved bath as she was covered in mud all over her skinny body. Next morning the Shavers took River – how they named their new family member – to the vet. Now River gets what she always deserved a lovely home and kind family! Thank you, Bill. What a guy!
