Man built custom kayak so he could take his dogs on adventures

When it comes down to our beloved furry friends, we sometimes do things we’ve never imagined we’re capable of. It is also the case of this retired orthopedic surgeon in Vermont, whose love for dogs and passion for kayaking determined him to build a very special kayak. Now, thanks to his ingenious idea, David Bahnson can take his two adorable dogs whenever he goes on trips!

David Bahnson decided to share all the great things he experienced in life with his two dogs. Therefore, when the retired man has seen how easily his beloved pup, Susie, is fitting in his luggage, he knew he won’t kayak alone, anymore.

So he decided to modify his kayak so that he could take his beloved dog in some great adventures. Of course, when David and his wife decided to adopt another dog, they needed some extra space on the tiny boat.

“When we got Ginger, I just put in another hole,” the man told Dodo. “It’s like a triple kayak, only there isn’t enough room for the paddlers to put their feet — but it’s perfect for a dog… They never hopped out into the water, actually.”

Of course, David’s four-legged companions are just in love when kayaking. “They seem to love it. They get excited when we’d pull the kayaks out and see that we were going,” he said.

“They are trained to get in the kayak themselves on command. They sit down, and off we go,” David also told the Dodo, who’s glad the dogs could actually give him an extra…paw. “We’ve seen other people kayaking with their dogs, but they usually have them in the cockpit with them. They each have a little dedicated space, and they just sit and enjoy the ride.”
