The last thing anyone would expect to se while on a fishing trip is a massive wild bear. But that’s exactly what these two fishermen came across in the middle of the Lake Vygozero in Karelia, Russia. Ruslan Lukanin from Moscow was fishing with his best buddy when suddenly a bear cub approached their boat!
The men couldn’t believed their eyes when spotted the wild animal, but they soon realized he was in need of help. Scared and confused the little one was struggling to stay afloat and in a desperate act, it tried to climb on the boat. It didn’t took too long until the two guys spotted a second bear cub. The poor creatures were so exhausted, they were literally sinking.
At that point Ruslan and his buddy knew they had to put their own lives on the line to save the drowning bears. So they grabbed the spoon net and other tools they find in the boat and carefully dragged the cubs in the boat. It was a pretty rescue, though, because the fishermen were both aware the cubs were still wild animals that could harm them right away.
“Take a rest, little one, take a rest,” one of the fishermen said.”Hold on, hold on. But what if it he bites us?.” But the cub seemed even more scared as it started shaking when the men reach it. “Don’t be afraid, just don’t be afraid,” the fishermen can be heard. “We’ll rescue you, don’t be afraid. It’s heavy! The net is rotating.”
Thankfully, in the end the kind guys have managed to rescue both cubs and take them to safety to a close island, where their mom has been spotted. According to Ruslan, the two cubs got separated by their mother in their attempt to cross the lake.
“They had swum[across the lake] with their mother,” the man said.”But she overestimated her strength and swam away. The cubs began to sink. We picked them up and dragged them to the island to which their mother had swum.”
The men admit that rescuing the two cubs could have gone pretty worse, but they would do it again, though. “It was dangerous, of course,” the two fishermen said. “But they are living creatures. We couldn’t just look the other way.”
