As an animal lover and a dog owner, I just can’t even imagine how devastating could be to find out my beloved pup is about to be gone. Unfortunately, this woman from Oahu, Hawaii, experienced that terrible feeling.

Daniela Stolfi-Tow lives with her husband and their Golden Retriever, Lily. And they were the definition of the happy, purrfect family. Therefore, when the vets diagnosed Lily with a terrible disease and gave her only 10% chances of survive, Daniela felt like the whole world is ripping apart.

“Once they stabilized her they told us it was Hermangiosarcoma, and its very common in Golden Retrievers. It comes on fast and she only had days to live if we didn’t do surgery,” Daniela says on her YouTube channel. “The bad news was that even if we did do the surgery she’d only have months. There was a small chance, only 10% chance that it was the benign kind.”

But Lily’s condition seemed to improve. Yet, the vets warned her owners not to get too much hopes, until the test results will come. “They said it would only be temporary. That in a few months she would bleed out. I kept saying, ‘but what if it is benign?’They were clear that it has never happened and we should be prepared and just enjoy our time with her,” Daniela recalls.

After one long week, the result came and Daniela decided to read them in front of her dog. And she captured the entire moment on camera. You can feel the tension when the video starts. But when there’s hope, there’s life and beating the odds, Lily and her family were informed that the tumour was benign, just as they hoped to be.

We should all learn something from this story, dog owner or not. We should never give up, no matter the odds! Because, “our pets are like supernovas; they shine so bright and fade out so fast. Anything we can do to keep them with us as long as possible we try and do. Thankfully, we were lucky,” Daniela told to Pet360.
