Dog saves a lost baby bird and decides to be her adoptive mom

When it comes down to caring for those in need, nothing compares with a dog’s gentle heart. Everyone calls them the men’s best friend, but I think dogs can easily be called everyone’s best buddies, regardless the species. Another heartwarming story that shows the unlikely, yet incredible bond between a puppy and a bird, this time, has recently emerged, melting everyone’s heart.

It happened in Puerto Rico, where a sweet pup’s quick-thinking saved a tiny bird’s life. Hiro was in the backyard with his human mom – Viviana Davila, when spotted a little creature near the hedge. Driven by the curiosity, the dog got closer. It’s when Viviana realized there might be someone in need of help. And she was right as a baby Quaker parrot was there, struggling to fly. Most likely the little one got lost and it also got injured.

“I noticed Hiro licking something on the grass, near the fence,” the woman told The Dodo. “[The dog] then started to lick this thing and looking at me, like something’s wrong. That gave me the signal that there was something going on and I approached him.”

It didn’t took too long until Viviana realized the tiny little thing is actually injured. So she took it to the closest vet. The doctors said the poor bird won’t be able to fly again as it hit pretty bad after it (most likely) fell off the nest. But Viviana knew she couldn’t left the little one to die, so she decided to take it back home, to take care of her.

Once they got back home, the woman started to fed her little guest, but little did she know back then, Hiro would actually adopt the family’s new member. Surrounded by love and finding the comfort it needed in its unlikely adoptive mom, the little bird, named Hope, has made an incredible recovery.

“It has been a week and a half and she is doing far better,” the woman said. “Hiro has been part of that effort. Since day one he has not left her side.” The news surprised even the vet. “The vet told us that on similar cases he recommends clients to put them to sleep. However, he was surprised to see how Hope was striving to live.”

Now, Hope and her adoptive dog are inseparable. In fact, Hiro seemed to make his lifetime mission to take care of his precious friend. And Viviana and her husband could have been more proud of him.

“Nothing matters anymore for him because he has a new purpose: taking care of Hope,” Viviana said. “We are so proud of his development and feel happy to have embraced his honorable soul.”
