The youngest son of Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa became a full time member of the Colts Neck, N.J., fire department. Sam Springsteen, 20, graduated from Monmouth County Fire Academy, reports Asbury Park Press. Both parents attended the ceremony, which took place at the Fire Academy in Howell, New Jersey.

Proud mom Scialfa posted an Instagram with Sam wearing his fire helmet with a note announcing graduation, then added hashtags: “#Proud #OurFamilyHero”. Her feed reveals additional images of her husband and sons. (Springsteen and Scialfa have three children: Evan, 23; Jessica, 22; and Sam.)

“This is not an easy course,” Monmouth Fire Marshal Henry Stryker III told Asbury Park Press. “There are many physical things and a lot of hard work.”

This high volume of work includes 188 hours of training in areas including rescue, firefighting, hazardous materials response, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, electrical safety and care of hoses, stairs and equipment, the publication noted.
Springsteens are former residents of New Jersey and live on their Colts Neck horse farm.
