This kind Norwegian guy is hailed as a hero, after he rescued a drowning duck from a frozen lake in his hometown. Images of 36-year-old Lars Jørun Langøien saving the helpless bird went viral now the internet call him the King of Ducks!

Jumping into a frozen lake doesn’t sounds like a great idea, but apparently for Lars it is nothing but routine. A researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Lars and one of his coworkers – 33-year-old Yngvil Søholt, love swimming so much, they do it even when the temperatures go below zero. That’s what happened this time, but beside swimming, the brave Lars also saved a duck’s life along the way.

The two men were in the swimwear, ready to jump into the lake, when they spotted a duck walking on the thin ice. They were admiring it, when the poor creature suddenly got stuck under the ice. Lars immediately realized the duck is in deep troubles, so without a second thought, he just jumped in and saved it.

Yngvil, who witnessed the dramatic rescue from the shore, couldn’t believe his eyes what he was seeing. He even grabbed a few snaps of the moment!

“I stood a bit shocked and didn’t quite understand what happened,” Lars’ coworker said. “I didn’t have time to think before Lars jumped in and broke the ice towards the duck. He managed to pull it up on solid ground, give it a towel and a bit of mouth-to-mouth, actually.”

After he brought it to the shore, the duck showed no signs of life, but Lars kept it warm for a few minutes and then it started to recover. Thanks to his gesture, the innocent duck got a second chance. Nonetheless, Lars didn’t consider himself a hero for what he did.

“It felt like the right thing to do,” he said. We simply need more people like him in the world. It will become such a better place!
