As fire loses intensity on Kangaroo Island, sadly a world-renowned resort fully burned by bushfire. Many areas of the South Australian island continue to burn and authorities talk about deteriorating conditions in coming days and attention shifts towards damage assessment and recovery from the huge blaze. Many communities were affected and they now return to see the work of a lifetime destroyed.

Besides many house, one of the iconic buildings destroyed in the fire was the luxurious Southern Ocean Lodge. The Southern Ocean Lodge had available 21 suites, which offered guests breathtaking and unobstructed views of the ocean. A drone video shows the the lodge was hit by the out-of-control bushfire, and the owners announcing the property’s closure.

“Baillie Lodges regrets to advise that Southern Ocean Lodge on South Australia’s Kangaroo Island has sustained significant damage by bushfire and the property is now closed,” the website reads.

In 2019, Southern Ocean Lodge Australia was named Conde Nast Traveller top resort, as voted by readers, and second overall in the South Pacific region.
